How long have you known the Karin&Gorelik duo?
A. G. I met the first half of the duo, Sabina Gorelik, in March 2006. She created stage dresses for my new band. I was introduced to Lena Karin twice. The official acquaintance took place in August 2006 while we actually met for the first time at a concert in Kharkov under romantic circumstances 13 years ago.
Is it true that you are going to appear in their performance entitled Hamlet. The Lost Certainty?
A. G. It’s true but I’m still unsure about this because this is very unusual for me. The main point is that I have to do without a guitar this time :))
Who are you going to act as and why?
A. G. Who do you think a front man from the Crematorium band can play? To be sure, the Gravedigger. At the same time, I dreamt to appear as Hamlet as all beginning actors do.
Was it difficult to persuade you to take part?
A. G. At first, I opposed this idea. However, two things tempted me: really interesting and original clothes the girls make as well as an opportunity to try out something new.
Why is it so interesting for you to take part in the new version of the Shakespeare’s play?
A. G. I came across such a synthesis of arts — literature, fashion and theater — for the first time. This is a very interesting and fascinating project. I think even the bravest interpretations can do no harm to this immortal work of art.
As a matter of fact, do you like Hamlet?
A. G. Hamlet means a quintessence of human experience to the most of the civilized world including myself. Shakespeare managed to put an exhaustive model of our life including all sorts of trials and doubts falling to everyone’s lot into his play. Judging by how Hamlet undergoes such ordeals, this makes him a model character for his morals and number two in my hit parade of morals. After Jesus Christ, who is my number one.
Have you ever taken part in any fashion shows? Do you think your audience can think all this is a bit irresponsible for such a serious-minded person as Armen Grigoryan?
A. G. I am going to step onto the catwalk for the first time. This is going to be as a part of the Haute Couture Week, and this is serious :)). At the same time, I have been taking part in fashion shows on quite an active basis of late. In my new project, I appear on stage wearing a costume created by Sabina. So, each of our performances is a sort of demonstration of haute couture clothes.
There are many different stories about catwalking including funny ones. For example, are you afraid of falling down?
A. G. Since I am currently engaged in the 3’Angel Project, I will become the fallen angel myself for a couple of seconds if I am destined to fall. However, I hope this will not happen.
What do you think about haute couture clothes?
A. G. They have been with me since I first appeared on stage. It is Yegor Zaitsev who invented my «Crematorium» image beginning with the hat, and he has always assisted me on an active basis. Now I keep an entire collection of his works at the studio including clothes and headdresses.
Do you wear them in your everyday life?
A. G. No, I don’t. I have enough garments when on stage, and the public attention is more than enough. I do not think it necessary to show off in my everyday life.
What is the fee you charge for taking part in the show?
A. G. It is free of charge for the beautiful and gifted girls.
